We are proud to have completed the stairs and balustrades package at Olympia London, one of the most significant venue redevelopments in the capital. Our package was part of the large refit of the historic exhibition centre in West Kensington, and our team has now handed over its part of the work.
Part of a £1.3 billion transformation
Olympia has hosted exhibitions and events since the 1880s. The £1.3 billion redevelopment is turning the 14-acre site into a new arts, entertainment and exhibition district, with a 1,575-seat theatre, a major live music venue, two hotels, offices, around 100,000 sq ft of restaurants and bars, and new public space. The venues are opening in stages through 2026.

Solid oak, steel and light
The main staircases are clad in oak, with full-height oak panelled balustrades and continuous oak handrails on brushed brackets. LED-lit nosings run along the edge of every tread, so each step reads clearly in the darker performance spaces while the timber keeps the stairs warm and welcoming.
Elsewhere, black steel stairs and balcony fronts have woven mesh infill with solid oak handrail capping, including a curved oak handrail that follows the line of the auditorium balcony.
Detail that holds up to millions of visitors
In a venue of this scale, stairs and balustrades have to be safe, hard-wearing and part of the design at the same time. Every run was set out on site so joints line up, handrails flow from flight to landing and the finish is consistent from one staircase to the next. That kind of result depends on accurate surveys and bespoke joinery made to fit first time.
